The Waukegan Police Department is accepting applications for police officers.

 

 

The City of Waukegan has a population of 92,066 and is situated midway between Chicago and Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan.  Waukegan is a community rich in history and blessed with a wide diversity of people.  Many cultures, religions, ethnic heritages and income levels are represented.

 

The Waukegan Police Department's authorized strength is 166 sworn officers and 255 total employees.  Our department offers opportunities for experience in all facets of law enforcement including patrol, investigations, traffic, K9, mounted patrol, gang suppression, narcotics, juvenile and community services.

 

 

Salary Information:

  • Starting salary $48,760

  • Increases to $56,795 after 1 year

  • Excellent benefits and retirement package

  • Prior police certification and experience salary up to $60,521

 

Must reside in Illinois at the time of hire.

 

 

Applicants must:

  • Be able to successfully pass a physical fitness test, written examination, psychological screening, medical and drug test, extensive personal interview and background examination

  • Be a United States Citizen

  • Be at least 21 and less than 36 years of age at time of written exam

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent education

  • Have a valid driver's license

  • Be of good moral character

Other Required Examinations:

 

Upon completion and passing of the written examination, the dates and times for the power test, interviews, police psychological profiling and medical examinations will be assigned on an individual basis.
