Supervise full-time and
part-time police officers and part-time student cadets and other support staff.
Develop policies to ensure quality administrative controls, guide officer
conduct, and comply with training and qualification standards such as use of
force and firearms proficiency
Responsible for hiring,
training, scheduling, performance review and take disciplinary action to ensure
professional conduct of police officers and cadets. Direct staff development
and/or community involvement efforts for officers and cadets.
Ensure the Campus Police
Department is compliant with State and Federal mandates related to
certifications, qualifications, reporting and training standards.
Represent the college as
Campus Police Chief in community meetings and events.
students, staff, local law enforcement representatives and members of the public
to build community relationships.
Assist with long term
planning, budget preparation and monitoring of fiscal resources of the
department by organizing, directing, and controlling personnel and equipment.
Manage work load to
ensure comprehensive investigation and reporting of criminal and suspicious
activities and service complaints. Develop and implement polices to collect,
preserve and safeguard evidence.
Ensure the Campus Police
Department employees receive training to provide initial emergency first aid
Direct subordinates to
manage traffic and provide security at special events and large group activities
held on any Waubonsee Community College campus.
preventive action to protect persons and property and monitor state and federal
"Hazards in the Workplace" regulations.
Direct staff to issue
emergency notifications and timely warning messages for students and faculty in
case of emergency college closing, severe weather conditions or other campus
investigation, communications and training with outside public safety agencies
such as sheriff's office, fire departments, and 911 dispatch center.
Perform other duties as
assigned by the Director of Emergency Preparedness and Safety.
Bachelor's degree in
Criminal Justice or related field required.
Minimum of five years of
full-time policing experience with a recognized police agency or college campus
law enforcement agency required.
Minimum of two years
supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency at the rank of Sergeant or
above required. Specific experience in post-secondary institution policing
Successful completion of
oral interview, criminal background, employment references, psychological and
physical fitness/functional employment assessments.
Ability to maintain
physical and mental health consistent with requirements of the college's law
enforcement officers. Maintain annual firearm range qualification and current
certifications required of other Waubonsee Community College Police Officers.
Currently certified as
an Illinois Police Officer with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and
Standard Board requirements or the demonstrated ability to obtain Illinois
police officer certification within three months of appointment.
Familiar with NIMS
practices required. Advanced NIMS training preferred.
Valid Illinois driver's license.
