Tazewell County is located in West Central Illinois adjacent to the City of Peoria and the Illinois River. Under the new Illinois Statute regulating 9-1-1 services, it must reduce the number of PSAPs a minimum of 50%. The current four PSAPs will be reduced to two. The Tazewell County ETSB submitted a Consolidation Plan to the State of Illinois in July of 2017. Aspects of the plan are under implementation.
A new countywide organization, Tazewell County Consolidated Communications, has been formed through inter-governmental agreement to provide county-wide 9-1-1 call-taking and dispatch services. The organization is controlled by a governing board which desires to hire a Director to manage operations. The proposed organization will have 34 employees and a beginning annual budget of approximately $3.2m.
The Director will manage 9-1-1 operations at two PSAPs. During the period of June 2018 through June 2019, the Director will serve as the project manager for the transition from four PSAPs to two and the formation of the new organization. Formative tasks include determination of processes, procedures, management practices, staff hiring, training and preparation of documentation.
