EXAMINATION STEPS:

  • Written Entrance Examination

  • Oral Interview

  • Fingerprinting, Background and Reference Checks

  • Psychological Assessment

  • Polygraph Exam

  • Drug Testing

  • Comprehensive Medical Evaluation

 

Special Notes:

 

Applicants will be required to produce a valid driver's license at each stage of the testing process.

 

 

Police Officer Requirements

 

Following are the required qualifications

to become a full-time Police Officer:

  • Age 21 at time of appointment (Can be age 20 with two (2) years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university to apply)

  • Must be less than 35 years of age per Illinois State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6, with the exception of Illinois State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6 section (d)

  • Must be a citizen of the United States of America

  • Have proof of a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Have a valid driver's license

 

The applicant must further be able to meet

specified requirements on the following:

  1. Written Examination

  2. Oral Interview

 

After successful completion of the above, must pass:

  1. Background Check

  2. Psychological Assessment

  3. Polygraph Examination

  4. Drug and Medical Examinations

 

Upon appointment, successfully:

  1. Attend and graduate from Police Academy

  2. Complete a one-year probationary period

The Application Packet contains:

  1. Police Officer Requirements (Applicant to retain)

  2. Test Dates and Locations Fact Sheet (Applicant to retain)

  3. Rules and Regulations Agreement/Test Result Waiver

  4. Psychological Evaluation and Polygraph Consent

  5. Drug Testing Consent Release

  6. Release of Information Authorization

  7. Background Investigation Release

  8. Description of Physical Ability Test (Applicant to retain)

  9. Application

 

In addition, you must include a legible copy (no originals) of the following documents with the completed application forms listed above:

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalency

  2. Transcript from college or university (if applicable)

  3. Birth certificate

  4. Military DD214 (if applicable)

  5. Current valid driver's license

  6. Recent photograph, maximum size 2" x 2", minimum size 1" x 1"

Failure to provide all requested information will result in disqualification.
