The Ideal Candidate

 

The Village seeks a professional police administrator who is innovative and can continuously improve the department.

 

 

Some traits the Village seeks include,

but are not limited to the following:

  • An administrator who is knowledgeable about and has experience in implementing modern police practices

  • Foster an environment of teamwork with other Village department heads

  • Insure training for department staff is continuous and ongoing

  • Be familiar with and encourage the use of technology to help manage the department

  • Be familiar with electronic records management systems and the information reports that can be derived

  • Create a department that is intelligence driven

  • Be familiar with budgeting practices and understand the implications of a budget of a smaller police agency

  • Use creative methods to improve the police facility understanding there is a limited amount of funding

  • Provide the Village Administrator and elected officials with appropriate information so they can make decisions based on data

  • Continue to improve the information flow from the department to the public

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Graduated from a college or university with a bachelorís degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice or public administration or closely related field,

  • Seven years of experience in police work, three years of which must have been equivalent to police sergeant or higher

  • Completion of the basic law enforcement training academy or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • An advanced degree in a related field and/or executive training is highly desired
