This position is responsible for overall management of the property room including evidence intake, record keeping, organization, and disposal.  This position is responsible for responding to crime scenes for evidence processing and for the maintenance and use of the crime laboratory for processing evidence. This position will prepare and maintain computer and paper files and reports documenting the collection, storage, and handling of evidence and property to properly document the chain of custody.

Requirements:

• Applicants should have strong knowledge of police property room control functions, crime scene investigation techniques and equipment, relevant rules and regulations of police work, local ordinances, state and federal statutes, and court decisions.

• Possessing strong organizational skills and written and interpersonal communication skills is a must.

• The ability and willingness to respond to forensic needs twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week outside of normal business hours and carry a wireless communication device is required.

• The ability to operate film and digital camera, and be proficient with digital imaging systems and knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes and other software program.

• Will be required to work under varying environmental conditions, which may require moderate physical activity and the ability to lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 60 lbs.

• A high school diploma or equivalent, preferably supplemented with an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in police administration, law enforcement, or a related field.

• Three (3) years of forensics experience in a police or law enforcement environment is preferred along with specialized training in the areas of police investigations and/or forensics.

• Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

Starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
