TELECOMMUNICATOR
$37,919 – $52,988 Annually

Selection will be by review of qualifications, skills and oral interview.
Duties include:

Receiving and transmitting police, fire and rescue service messages
-
Coordinating activities of police and fire units by providing information and
direction
-
Monitoring alarm systems
-
Operating multiple computer systems including LEADS computer terminal, E911,
CAD
-
Record-keeping and clerical duties, which requires proficiency in basic word
processing and spreadsheet functions
-
Emphasis is placed on providing quality public safety services through
involvement with the public and requires the handling of confidential materials
Employees must be able to work 12-hours shifts, including weekends and holidays.
The starting salary* is approximately $37,919, (contract is currently in
negotiations) plus excellent benefits and paid overtime opportunities. * Salary
– Based upon experience, new hires may start at higher step with approval.
Upon receiving a conditional offer, candidates should be prepared to take a
psychological and polygraph examination, physical and drug screen, and undergo a
thorough background investigation.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Graduation from high school or equivalent
-
Some experience involving public contact OR
-
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the
following knowledge, abilities and skills:
-
Knowledge of the geography of the Village, the location of important buildings,
and the street system and/or ability to quickly acquire them
-
Ability to learn operating requirements and techniques of police communications
equipment and computer terminals within a reasonable training period
-
Ability to acquire basic knowledge of police procedures within a reasonable
training period
-
Ability to cope with crisis and non-crisis situations with accuracy and in a
calm and efficient manner
-
Ability to greet the public in a professional manner both in person and by
telephone
-
Ability to answer and transmit calls and questions with a clear, well-modulated
voice
-
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
-
Skill in the use of a keyboard
-
EMD and LEADS certification a plus
RESIDENCY
There is no residency requirement, however, among equally qualified applicants,
preference will be given to Roselle residents.
