Four fire stations.  Rock Island has a population of 39,684 residents and is located in western Illinois along the Mississippi River.  Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline in Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa make up the metro area called the “Quad Cities” with a population of 436,672.

 

Under direct supervision, participates in a City sponsored program of fire safety, protection, prevention, and emergency medical services. 

 

 

Requirements include:

  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of high school

  • Ability to successfully pass a physical agility test, written and oral examination, background security investigation, substance screening, and medical examination

  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license

  • Be at least 21 years of age upon appointment

  • Must possess an IL and/or National Paramedic certification at time employment is offered and prefer a Fire Fighter II certification

  • Selected candidate must meet a residency requirement and shall live in the State of Illinois within a 15-mile radius of  Rock Island within 6 months after completing the one (1) year probation period

 

Starting Salary:

 

$43,436.00

(contract under negotiations)

 

 

The physical agility and written test will be on September 10, 2011 (time and location available in the information packet).  A valid driver’s license must be presented at the agility and written test.  Applicants must have completed a Fire Fighter application by required deadline to be eligible to take the agility test.
