The Rantoul Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will be accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer.



Applications will be available beginning

January 29, 2018 online at:


The application deadline is March 2, 2018.



Minimum qualifications include:

  • 21 - 34 years of age*

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Excellent physical condition

  • No felony convictions

  • Eyesight corrected to 20/20 in each eye


Selected applicant will be required to live within a twenty mile radius of the corporate limits of Rantoul within six months after the completion of probationary period.


*(A veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.)


Applicants must successfully complete a written entrance examination, psychological testing, thorough background investigation, oral interview, and a physical examination which includes a drug screening.  Applicant will be required to pass a physical agility test to successfully complete the police training academy.



The Village of Rantoul offers a competitive benefits package.


The starting salary for entry level officers is currently $57,209 annually.

After the eligibility list is established, an oral interview will be scheduled for candidates with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Prior to hire, an applicant must undergo a background investigation, psychological testing, and medical examination including a drug screen.
