Full-Time Telecommunicator

 

Police Department

 

 

The Village of Orland Park is accepting applications for a full-time Telecommunicator in our Police Department.

 

This position is primarily responsible for processing emergency and non-emergency requests for service of police, and transferring requests for fire or medical units to the appropriate jurisdiction and dispatching and communication with emergency units including, police, ESDA, fire, and EMS as necessary.

 

This position is also responsible for monitoring fire, hold-up, and burglar alarm, all required radio frequencies and disseminates the appropriate information to field and command personnel, and will also perform matron duties.

 

This position will also perform clerical tasks including filing, typing of records, logs, arrest cards, or any other documents required by the department.

 

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED along with a minimum of one year dispatch or clerical work is required.

  • Three to five year previous dispatch experience is preferred.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • The ability to speak distinctly and effectively, multitask, maintain accuracy and confidentiality, solid interpersonal skills, and good judgment are also required.

  • The ability to handle pressure and remain calm in emergency situations, read and understand written and verbal instructions, and the ability to make decisions consistent with department policy is also required.

  • Proficient level of computer skills is required.

 

Hours:

 

40 hours per week. Midnight shift position (upon hire), however, must be able to work various shifts. Weekend and holiday availability is also required.

 

 

Salary Starting:

 

around $24.00 per hour
