Job Description:

  • Patrol, inspect and protect campus buildings and grounds for the prevention of crimes and damage. Parking, pedestrian and traffic control.

  • Ability to patrol on foot, operate marked police vehicle safely, and use of the department Segway.

  • Participate in training for the use of the ARMS reporting system. Certification in required NIMS courses and become a LEADS certified user.

  • Receive and respond to complaints, questions and requests regarding campus safety and security. Take appropriate action to insure safety and security of people on campus.

  • Report potential safety and fire hazards. Working knowledge of fire related equipment.

  • Basic certification in first aid and use of AED equipment.

  • Issue college warnings and/or tickets for moving or parking violations. Enforce college policy and state law on indoor smoking.

  • Prepare and write-up criminal case reports, accident reports, and other reports of an administrative/informational nature relating to the college.

  • Qualify for and utilize firearms, defensive weapons, or instruments authorized for use by the Department.

  • Effect custodial arrests and exert physical control over resistive or combative people when necessary.

  • Become certified police officer from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board.

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Associate of Arts degree in Law Enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

  • One year law enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training is necessary.

  • Must possess a valid US issued drivers license.

  • Must possess a valid Illinois Firearms Owners Identification Card (FOID).

  • Ability to follow established procedures and communicate with a diverse population.

  • Proficient in basic computer skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information, including when testifying in court.

  • Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large.

 

Additional Information:

 

Regularly works Monday through Friday.

 

Two shifts include a 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM shift and a 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM shift with the possibility of working other hours/shifts as needed. Must also be able to work weekends and holidays.

 

 

Salary:

 

$41,222 annually

 

 

Applicants will be required to complete the following, prior to employment:

  • Power Test

  • Background Investigation

  • Psychological Exam/Medical Exam/Drug Test

 

Experience, length in years and kind:

 

Experience within the law enforcement profession; experience of five years or more as a certified police officer in the State of Illinois is preferred.

 

 

Licenses, Certificates, or Registration:

 

Must successfully complete the Basic Law Enforcement Academy as approved by the ILETSB, or currently be certified as a police officer.

 

 

Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

 

Must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record; must possess a current valid State of Illinois Firearms Owners Identification card. Applicants who are not currently certified police officers must possess a current POWER Test card.

 

 

Working Conditions/Physical Conditions:

 

Must have the ability to patrol inside and outside of the campus buildings at the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses in all types of weather, working all shifts (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM and 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM) including holidays and weekends. These conditions include the ability to lift (50+ pounds), climb, stoop, exert 100+ pounds of force, stand for extended periods of time, walk, run, sit, handle and manipulate objects, see, hear, talk, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, smell, reach and balance.

Equipment Used:

 

Motor vehicle, firearms, impact weapon, O/C (pepper) spray, handcuffs, computers and related software, cameras and CCTV equipment, AED, fire extinguisher and various office equipment.
