Oak Lawn Emergency Communications

Oak Lawn Central is a newly renovated, multi-jurisdictional 9-1-1 dispatch center located in Oak Lawn, Illinois. We receive 9-1-1 calls and dispatch police, fire and emergency medical calls. Duties involve answering 9-1-1 calls, transmitting vital information to emergency personnel via the radio, relaying information via a computer-aided dispatch terminal, monitoring fire and burglar alarms, and answering administrative and non-emergency lines.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Minimum age requirement of 18 years old

Education and experience equivalent to a high school degree

Ability to speak clear articulate English

Full range of hearing in both ears

Type accurately with a speed of at least 35 WPM

Must not have tested for this position with the Village of Oak Lawn within 1 years of date of submission of this application

The position supports a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation and applicants must have the desire and ability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.

Desirable qualifications:

Previous experience in public-safety dispatching

Multi-line telephone equipment

Fast paced, computerized customer service experience

Flexibility, split ear and multi-tasking are paramount

Starting salary is $43,992 annually with advancement potential to $63,792.00 after three years! Complete fringe benefits package. 4 day on/2 day off rotation!

Applicants must successfully pass a keystroke/typing test with a minimum speed of 35 w.p.m., applicant testing, job simulation exercises, oral interview board, as well as an extensive background investigation, criminal history check, psychological evaluation, physical exam and drug test.
