Notice of Examination for Firefighter

The Board of Civil Service Commissioners of the Village of North Riverside will conduct competitive examinations to establish a two-year eligibility list for the position of Probationary Firefighter. 

Written tests and oral interview will be part of the selection process.

All applicants must meet these requirements:

• Be a United States Citizen of good moral character.

• Have attained minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.

• Be under 35 years of age per 65 ILCS 5/10-1-7 with the exception of 10-1-7 (d) of the said statute.

• Have proof of High School diploma or equivalent.

• Have a valid Illinois Drivers License.

• Have a current CPAT certification or obtain a CPAT certification by May 2012.

• Have a current Fireman II certification.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 until Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Packets must be picked up in person and signed for by each applicant.  The application fee will be $ 20.  No mail request will be honored.  All forms must be completed in their entirety for consideration and must be received by the Desk Officer in the Police Department by 6:00 P.M., February, 22, 2012.  Mailed in packets will not be accepted.

All applicants must attend an orientation meeting on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 8:00 A.M., at:

Acceptable scoring levels will be announced at the orientation.  The written test will be administered immediately following orientation.

Applicants who are placed on the Civil Service Eligibility List will be subject to thorough background investigations and shall be required to submit to psychological and polygraph tests before appointment to Probationary Firefighter.
