The Northbrook Police Department is recruiting

public safety dispatchers who will:

• Receive 911 emergency and non-emergency calls

• Dispatch Police response

• Monitor status of units

• Maintain related records

Duties also include:

• Operating LEADS, NCIC, and Village computer networks to retrieve law enforcement related information as needed.

Operates multi-faceted communications devices, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), in-house computer systems, voice recording systems, Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD). Must have experience with computers and Windows operating systems.

Candidates must:

• Be at least 21 years old

• Possess, or be able to obtain within the first year of employment, a current Law Enforcement Agency Data System (LEADS) certification

• Have a High school diploma or GED required

• Have one to three years related communications or Police Department experience preferred

• Be skilled in keyboarding

• Exercise good judgment

• Be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality in the performance of your duties

Candidates must multi-task efficiently and under pressure. Anticipated schedule is 3:00 pm to11:00 pm (subject to work any shift as needed). Must be able and available to work weekends, holidays, extended hours in emergency, disaster, or other situations influenced by workload or staffing shortages. Must pass applicant testing including polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, background investigation, drug screening, and hearing test.

Candidate must have a professional demeanor and sensitivity to maintain effective working relations with other employees and interact tactfully with the public to resolve situations that may involve high levels of stress, often in emergency circumstances.

Salary Range:

$49,000 to $70,000
