Municipal Consolidated Dispatch (MCD) center located in Harwood Heights, Illinois is currently seeking qualified persons for the position of part-time Emergency Communications Telecommunicator (ECT) and establish a pool of qualified candidates for full-time.


MCD is a consolidated dispatch center that serves as the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the Villages of Harwood Heights, Norridge, Schiller Park, and the Norwood Park Fire Protection District (three police departments and two fire agencies).  Formed through intergovernmental agreement; operations began in September 2017. MCD handles requests for police, fire, emergency medical assistance, and after hours public works notifications.  All personnel are cross-trained.

  • Applicants must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to type at least 30 WPM

  • Must be able to work up to a minimum of sixteen (16) hours per week

  • Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, articulate the English language

  • Successful applicants must pass applicant testing/screening, background investigation, pre-employment physical to include drug screening, and meet industry recommended hearing standards

  • Must be able to obtain Law Enforcement Agency Data Systems (LEADS) Full-Access certification within three months of employment

  • Must be able to obtain CPR/Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification and state licensing requirements within three months of employment

  • Must attend information/orientation sessions to move forward through the selection/screening process


Emergency Communications Telecommunicators receive requests for emergency, non-emergency assistance; including law enforcement, fire, medical or other public-safety related services via 9-1-1, non-emergency telephone, radio, Computer Aided Dispatch systems or other means, and dispatches appropriate response units in addition to related work as required or assigned.
