The Morton Grove, Niles, Park Ridge and Wilmette Fire Departments are currently accepting applications for the position of firefighter.

from June 23, 2014 until August 11, 2014

 

Applicants will be required to purchase the application for a nonrefundable fee of $55.  This fee will allow applicants to apply to one, two, three or all four departments.  The application deadline is August 11, 2014 at 4:00 p.m.

 

 

The minimum requirements you must meet for application to each department are:

 

Morton Grove

  • Hold a High School Diploma/GED

  • Be 21 years of age, but under 35 years of age by the date of the written exam (September 6, 2014), unless otherwise exempt by State statute

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence and who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the U.S.

  • Possess a valid driverís license

  • Submit proof that they have passed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Aerial Ladder Climb within a ONE YEAR PERIOD PRIOR to the date of the written examination (September 6, 2014)

  • Vision: 20/30 corrected, 20/100 uncorrected, able to identify/distinguish between red, green and yellow

  • In order to complete the probationary period, candidates must have obtained Illinois State Basic Operations Firefighter Certification and Illinois EMT-Paramedic Certification

 

Niles

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • 21 to under 35 years of age by date of written exam (September 6, 2014), unless otherwise exempt by state statute

  • U.S. Citizen OR applied for citizenship, contemplating residing the in U.S.

  • Valid driverís license

  • Submit proof that they have passed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Aerial Ladder Climb within a ONE YEAR PERIOD PRIOR to the date of the written examination (September 6, 2014)

  • Vision correctable to 20/20 and free from color blindness

  • Residency: required within six months after completing one-year probation - boundary limits: Wisconsin state line on the north, the shoreline of Lake Michigan and the Indiana state line on the east, state highway 30 on the south and route 47 on the west

  • In order to complete the probationary period, candidates must have obtained Illinois State Basic Operations Firefighter Certification and Illinois EMT-Paramedic Certification

 

Park Ridge

  • At least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at time of written exam (September 6, 2014), unless otherwise exempt by statute

  • No felony convictions

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

  • U.S. Citizen

  • Valid Driverís License

  • Current and Valid IDPH EMT-Paramedic license at time of application

  • Current and Valid CPAT card issued by a licensed agency within 12 months prior to written exam date (September 6, 2014); CPAT card must also be valid at time of hire    

 

Wilmette

  • Hold a High School Diploma/GED PLUS one of the following:

    • Sixty (60) hours of education from an accredited college/university

    • Two (2) years Military service

    • Illinois State Fire Marshallís Firefighter II/Basic Firefighter Certification

    • Current EMT-Paramedic license from any state or national registration

  • Possess a valid driverís license

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • Be 21 years of age, but under 35 years of age by the date of the written exam (September 6, 2014), unless otherwise exempt by State statute

  • Submit proof that they have passed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Aerial Ladder Climb within a ONE YEAR PERIOD PRIOR to the date of the written examination (September 6, 2014)

You are required to arrive at the testing location no later than 8:30 a.m. with photo identification (valid driverís license or State ID) to sign-in.  The mandatory orientation will begin promptly 8:30 a.m. and testing will immediately follow; NO LATE ADMITTANCE.  Candidates will be eligible to participate in the written exam ONLY IF they have submitted the application and required documents by Monday, August 11, 2014. The testing process will consist of two tests: 1) a traditional firefighter examination that assesses cognitive ability and behavioral characteristics and 2) a scenario-based skills assessment that assesses job-related skills.
