The City of McHenry/NERCOM has a full time employment opportunity for the position of Telecommunicator.
Previous experience as a Telecommunicator within the last three years preferred.

stressful environment with a high level of professional responsibility. This
position is responsible for answering and dispatching 911 emergency calls,
collecting vital information from caller, communicating with police, fire and
EMS in the field, answering non-emergency calls, along with a variety of other
responsibilities. NERCOM services numerous police and fire/rescue agencies. We
are committed to offering the highest level of services in the industry.

Experience as a telecommunicator handling police, fire, and EMS preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Possess the ability to listen, comprehend the caller, follow established
protocol, and make decisions affecting public safety.
Strong planning and multi-tasking skills. Effectively answer phones, communicate
with caller to collect information, dispatch to police/fire/EMS, enter data into
system all simultaneously.
Possess the ability to produce written reports, logs, and records.
Typing proficiency of 35 words per minute.
General computer skills in a Windows environment.
Possess the ability to read, understand and interpret maps, and receive and give
directions using maps.
ability to work well under pressure and effectively manage stress, and maintain
emotional balance under rapidly changing situations.
This is a 24/7 center and shift-work, weekends, and holidays are required.

The starting annualized base salary for this position is $51,925.97
(Step 1 effective May 1, 2018)
Candidates with previous related experience may be hired into an advanced step
in the pay matrix as detailed in the collective bargaining agreement. This
position is not exempt under the FLSA.
