The City of Marengo Fire & Police Commission is now seeking police officer applicants.

To qualify in the application process, the applicant must:

• Be at least 21 years of age, not attained age 35 at time of testing.

• Be a citizen of the United States.

• Possess a valid driver’s license.

• Minimum education qualification: possess a high school diploma or GED.  Associate’s Degree preferred.

• Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, normal peripheral vision, no impairment of color blindness.

• Applicant must attend the scheduled Orientation.

• Prior to final appointment, applicant must qualify/pass the following: [a] written examination, [b] oral interview, [c] background investigation, [d] polygraph test, [e] psychological evaluation, [f] pre-employment physical & drug screen, [g] credit check, and [h] physical ability test (administered at Police Academy).

• Prior to appointment, and in consideration of employment with the City of Marengo, applicant must enter into a pre-employment police officer training reimbursement agreement as codified under the Marengo Municipal Code, Chapter 4 § 4.12.

Starting Salary:

$46,632.00

There is a $25.00 (non-refundable) fee required to obtain this packet.  No packets will be sent via mail nor will any written or telephone requests for this packet be honored.  This packet is available beginning Friday, December 9, 2011, beginning after 8:00 a.m.  Fully completed application packets must be returned no later than Thursday, December 22, 2011 by 4:00 p.m.

The first 100 applications returned will be the only applicants considered for the written testing phase of this process.

Applicants MUST attend a mandatory orientation meeting on Thursday, January 26, 2012, held at:

Marengo Community High School

110 Franks Road

Marengo, IL

beginning at 6:30 p.m. in order to be admitted to the written examination.

The written examination will be conducted on Saturday, January 28, 2012 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the high school.  No physical ability testing will be conducted at these meetings.
