Lincolnwood Police Department

Progressive, mature, full service North Shore suburb located 10 miles from downtown Chicago and O’Hare airport is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. Appointed by the Village President with consent of the Village Board. The Chief of Police reports directly to the Village Administrator.

The department has a $5 million operating budget, 33 sworn employees and 17 full and part time non- sworn employees. Primarily a residential community, Lincolnwood comprises 2.7 square miles that includes 13 parks, a regional shopping center, thriving business and manufacturing districts and high quality residential homes on beautiful tree lined streets. Lincolnwood combines the charm of a small community with the amenities and convenience of a big city.

Candidates for the Police Chief position should possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, public policy, business administration or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred; minimum ten years police experience including five in a supervisory capacity.

Proven experience in addressing current public safety issues with a strong orientation toward community oriented policing. Ability to address controversial and/or complex topics with top management, community groups, the media, and elected and appointed officials.

Strong innovative administrative, financial/budgetary, operational and labor relations skills as well as superior leadership skills very important.

Successful candidates must be approachable, with a desire to be visible in the community. Residency not required.
