Chief of Police

 

 

Lincolnshire, IL (7,275), a home rule community located in Lake County, Illinois, approximately 34 miles north of downtown Chicago, seeks a progressive, experienced law enforcement executive to serve as its Chief of Police. Lincolnshire is one of the areaís premier suburbs with excellent schools, generous open space areas, vibrant businesses and corporate centers, winding roads and beautiful residences. Lincolnshire is also home to Stevenson High School, a nationally ranked high school with more than 5,000 students. The community was planned around its mature trees, giving neighborhoods a distinct rural charm.

 

The Police Department's authorized staffing is 25 sworn officers, consisting of a Chief, a Deputy Chief, 5 Sergeants and 18 Police Officers. The Department is also staffed by 2 Community Service Officers, one Records Clerk and an Administrative Assistant. In 2015, the Department responded to approximately 14,000 calls for service, of which 63% were initiated by Officers. The General Fund Budget for Fiscal Year 2016 includes $4.05 million for Police Services.

 

A candidate or the position of Chief of Police must be a proven leader, an exceptional communicator and able to thoughtfully represent the interests of the Department and the Village, with a high level of community engagement. The Lincolnshire Police Department has a strong commitment to providing high quality law enforcement services through dedicated Department personnel and a proactive community relations programs.

 

Candidates must have a bachelorís degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field. A masterís degree and/or executive management certificates including the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University Center for Public Safety or other similar State and/or National programs is highly desirable. Candidates must have at least 10 years of law enforcement experience of which at least five years is in increasingly responsible supervisory/command experience in a law enforcement agency, and be able to adapt their knowledge and experience to the leadership of the Lincolnshire Police Department.

 

The successful candidate will be a highly communicative, experienced executive with a proven track record in a union environment, with the ability to collaborate with elected and appointed officials and departmental personnel to establish a strong and effective rapport with the department and community.

 

The Lincolnshire Chief of Police is appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Village Board and reports to the Village Manager.
