The Lewis University
Police Department is a trained, professional organization committed to providing
a safe and secure educational and working environment for students, faculty,
staff and visitors. The Campus Police Officer is a member of the Police
Department professional staff. We currently have an opening for a full-time
The function of the Campus Police Officer is to maintain security and safety for
assigned areas, effectively respond to requests for service and enforce
applicable state and local laws in addition to University policies. Campus
Police Officers are an integral part of the departmentís overall community
policing strategy. Campus Police Officers are part of the Universityís team of
first responders equipped to assist in various emergency and non-emergency
Must be at least 21
years of age and have a high school diploma and a minimum of 60 hours of
Must possess a valid
Illinois driverís license with a good driving record.
Must be able to
communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to walk, run,
climb, provide assistance to persons in distress, operate required equipment
(including police bicycles and various weapon systems), and work outdoors in a
variety of adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to work
with flexible schedules involving evening, weekend and holiday work.
Ability to successfully
complete various required departmental training programs (including police
bicycle and defensive tactics).
Ability to send and
receive information with necessary optical, auditory and manual dexterity.
Must pass a
psychological exam, basic skills assessment and personality profile.
Must pass a physical
Must pass a background
investigation including a fingerprint check. Candidates must not have any felony
convictions or serious misdemeanor convictions.
The most qualified
candidates will have successfully completed an accredited police academy and be
certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Standards and Training Board as police
officers. Previous public safety experience in a campus environment. In addition

email, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software are also
