The Village of Lake Zurich is accepting applications for the purpose of establishing an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer.


Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the date of application (August 30, 2018), or as otherwise exempt by statute.



Applicants must meet all of the following prerequisites:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Speak and read English

  • U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen or in the process of citizenship at time of hire

  • Valid U.S. driverís license


Appointment to the eligibility list will be based on a written test, physical ability (POWER) test, and verbal examination. Oral examinations will be conducted by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Oral examinations are given only to those persons who have passes all previous tests. Cooperation with an extensive background and security check is also required, which may include a polygraph examination. This position requires no use of tobacco products while on duty.  Officers must reside within 35 miles of the police facility upon completion of probationary period per the F.O.P. collective bargaining agreement.

Completed applications along with a $25.00 processing fee will be accepted at the Lake Zurich Police Department by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Applicants may also pay processing fee on-line via the Village of Lake Zurich website ( Proof of identification must be presented upon return of application and at each phase of the testing process.


Applicants that have 3 years full-time experience in a properly constituted police department/law enforcement agency and are currently certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board may request a waiver from participating in the following elements of the examination process: Orientation and Physical Agility as provided in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1.6. Such request for waiver must be requested in writing with the appropriate supporting documents to the Secretary of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners prior to the examination element.
