SUMMARY:

 

The Ranger Police Officer enforces the Illinois Compiled Statutes and District Rules and Regulations on District lands. Responsible for the protection of the public and natural resources.  Provides public relations field support, surveillance, emergency assistance, and assistance to local law enforcement agencies.  The Lake County Forest Preserve Districtís Public Safety Department has a Community Oriented Policing philosophy and is responsible for maintaining the peace and initiating activities that build positive relationships with the public. The selected candidate will conduct high visibility patrols on foot, bike, or vehicle to prevent crime or disturbance of the peace, control traffic, maintain order, conduct surveillance, investigations, make arrests and provide emergency assistance. 

 


EXPERIENCE:

 

Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • at least 21 years old;

  • a citizen of the United States;

  • a high school graduate with at least 60 hours of college credit or a combination of education and experience;

  • a valid driverís license;

  • and vision correctable to 20/20.

  • Conservation policing background is a plus.

  • Must be able to complete basic police training approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

  • Selected candidates will be required to complete the State Certified Power Test, written test, oral interview, psychological test, physical and drug test and in-depth background investigation.

Selected candidates must be available for a testing day consisting of the power and written tests on Saturday, June 11, 2016.  The selected candidates must be able to successfully complete the State Certified Power Test in order to be eligible for the written test.  Selected candidates will be notified regarding details of the testing day via email or US Mail, after the closing date of May 13th.
