Lateral Entry



The Lake Bluff Police Department is seeking to create a lateral entry eligibility list for full-time sworn police officers. The Lake Bluff Police Department is an active small agency that has served the Lake Bluff community for over 120 years. This international accredited agency handles patrol and investigative functions while participating in multiple mutual aid law enforcement groups. Officers are involved in many aspects of the law enforcement process and appropriate training is provided to meet these expectations.



Police Officer Minimum Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently employed as a police officer for at least 2 continuous years or have left their most recent agency in good standing within 2 years of this lateral entry application process.

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Valid IL driverís license with good driving history

  • 21-35 years of age unless exempt under 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6

  • No criminal record

  • Excellent moral character

  • Vision correctable to 20/20

  • FOID Card eligible at time of hire

  • After the 18 month probationary period, the officer will be required to live within a 30 mile radius of the police department.


  • The hiring process will start with a Department issued application.

  • Upon acceptance of the application, applicants may be selected to be interviewed by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (BOFPC) to create an eligibility list.

  • A candidate may then be selected to continue with the testing/hiring process which will include: (i) Psychological/Psychiatric Examination (ii) Polygraph Examination (iii) Medical Examination (iv) Background Investigation
