The City of Kankakee, Illinois, a progressive and diverse community of 28,000 residents located approximately 60 miles south of Chicago, is seeking an enthusiastic leader to manage the CALEA and ILEAP certified police department, consisting of 74 sworn officers and 15 civilians.  The current chief is retiring after leading the department for ten years.

Requirements:

• The new chief will be a proven leader and creative problem solver with excellent communication skills and an understanding and promotion of community oriented philosophies.

• A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experiences, including five years at a senior command/management level.

• A Bachelors Degree in Criminology, Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field is preferred, however, candidates will be considered on overall experience, qualifications, education and training.

Salary information range DOQ:

$100,000 - $120,000
