As a Deputy Corrections Officer, qualified candidates will be trained to operate a new state-of-the-art correctional facility. Duties include monitoring detainees to ensure a safe and secure environment for Sheriff's Department personnel, civilian staff, and those incarcerated.

I highly recommend getting the application as early as possible because it requires considerable documentation. There is a $20 administrative fee due when you pick up the application packet. The qualifications for the

Corrections Officer position include: 

  • You must be at least 21 years old at the time of being placed on the eligibility list

  • No upper age limit restriction applies

  • No experience necessary

  • Have a high school diploma or GED

  • Have a valid driver's license

  • Be a citizen of the United States

  • Have eyesight correctable to 20/20 and be free of color blindness

  • Pass the physical fitness test--currently using the State of Illinois POWER Test

  • Pass other pre and post tests prescribed by the Merit commission including:

    • written test

    • oral interview

    • psychological evaluation

    • medical examination

  • Pass polygraph test

  • Pass background investigation

  • Reside in Kane, McHenry, DeKalb, Will, Kendall, DuPage, or Cook county within 18 months of hire date
