The Illinois State Police is a full service law enforcement agency who offers career opportunities in areas such as the Divisions of Operations, Forensic Services, Internal Investigation and Administration.


Since its inception, the Illinois State Police has fostered and served with a reputation of Integrity, Service and Pride. Illinois State Police functions include protecting life and property, enforcing both criminal laws and motor vehicle safety laws, responding to emergencies and disasters and providing a myriad of diverse specialized services to both the public and the criminal justice community.




  • Never been convicted of a felony

  • United States citizen

  • Valid driver's license

  • Willing to accept assignment anywhere in the state

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree

If a Bachelor's Degree has not been obtained, we will accept:

  • Associates of Applied Science-Law Enforcement only

  • Associate of Arts Degree

  • Associate of Science Degree

  • 60 semester quarter hours core course work



Meet one of the following experience requirements:

  • Three years continuous, full-time service as a sworn police officer with the same police agency

  • Three consecutive years of active military duty

Education Requirement is waived if you meet one of the following and can prove so on a certified DD214:

  • Has served 3 years of full active and continuous military duty and received an honorable discharge

  • Has served in a combat mission by proof of hostile fire pay or imminent danger pay during deployment on active duty

  • Has been honorably discharged by US Armed Forces, or5 are active members of the Illinois National Guard or a reserve component of the US Armed forces, and who has been awarded a Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal or Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal
