PROPERTY/EVIDENCE CUSTODIAN
Full-Time Position
The City of Highland Park is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to
work as a Property Evidence Custodian in the Police Department.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Property/Evidence Custodian is to provide for
the preservation and security of seized or otherwise collected, property and
evidence in the custody of the Police Department, and maintenance of police
identification services.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent
-
Additional training equivalent to two years of college or attainment of an
Associates Degree
-
Five to ten (5-10) years of police or municipal government experience, or
-
An equivalent combination of education and experience as listed above
-
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Required Skills, Knowledge and Ability Needed
-
Considerable knowledge of police department operations;
statutes, regulations, case law and general practices related to documentation
and maintenance of evidence and property records
-
Working knowledge of the operation of a personal
computer, photographic equipment, word processing functions and other common
software applications; working knowledge of office equipment and machines
-
Some knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the
geographical and jurisdictional areas of the City of Highland Park
-
Considerable skill in maintaining detailed and accurate
records and maintaining chain of custody and security of property and evidence
records
-
Considerable skill in working efficiently and with
minimal supervision and in following written and oral instructions
-
Working skill in the operation of a personal computer,
photographic equipment, word processing software and other software
applications
-
Working skill in preparing written reports; working skill
in communicating effectively orally and in written format with staff and other
agencies
-
Working skill in providing court testimony
-
Working skill in reading, comprehending and applying
rules, regulations, and laws related to evidence and property records
-
Some skill in using office equipment and machines such as
a facsimile machine, telephone, and copier
-
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to
information obtained
Starting Salary:
$39,462 - $42,886

completion of all elements, the selected candidate will be scheduled to meet
with the City Manager
