Hanover Township located in Cook County, Illinois, is currently accepting applications to fill a full-time Director for the Department of Emergency Services.


The Director is responsible for the successful achievement of the mission of the Department of Emergency Services to respond to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency events to either assist primary emergency responders or operate independently in times of natural and manmade disasters. The Department is staffed by professional volunteers.


This position oversees the administration, training, and operation of the Department.  This position serves as the primary point of contact for all Emergency Services related matters to include acting as the liaison and coordinator between the township’s Department of Emergency Services and local, county, state, federal, and non-governmental agencies.  The Director develops and prepares all procedures and administrative materials for the department to include annual budgets, activity reports, training programs, and the Township’s Emergency Operations Plan.


The Director position requires graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in emergency management, public administration, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred), at least four to seven years of administrative or professional experience in an Illinois local government, emergency management, law enforcement, fire and rescue, or closely related field with two to four years of management experience.


Candidates must possess strong analytical and technical skills and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Candidates must also possess general knowledge of emergency and project management, establish and maintain liaisons with local, county, and state emergency management and emergency services and disaster agencies, and is responsible for recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteer emergency services members.  The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities.



Starting Salary:


$40,000 plus an excellent benefits package


32 hour/week position
