The Village of Gurnee is accepting applications for the position of full time Community Service Officer (CSO), a non-sworn civilian member of the Gurnee Police Department.

Starting annual base salary $41,586 plus benefits.

Primary responsibilities of a CSO include, but are not limited to, responding to non-criminal public nuisance complaints; animal control and complaints; running administrative errands within the Police Department and for other Village departments; handling vehicle lockouts; providing traffic control services, police vehicle escorts and courtesy patrols; parking enforcement; taking reports of minor thefts such as bicycle thefts and private property accidents; performing residential security checks; assisting during peak times at Police Station including typing and filing of police records and reports; serving as crossing guards when necessary; inspecting / installing child car safety seats (if certified) and performing related job tasks, duties, and public service as required.

Requires:

• High school diploma (or GED)

• Valid drivers license; customer service, office, and/or security work experience

• Ability to work in a computerized environment

• Basic proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time and meet other moderate physical demands required by position

• Bilingual skills desirable but not required

Additional position requirements:

• Must be able to work varying shifts and overtime

• Work schedule will include work on evenings, weekends and holidays

• This position has a living radius of 20 miles as measured from the Gurnee Police Station

• The successful applicant must reside within the limit within 24 months after hire 

The hiring process includes:

• Background investigation

• Post-offer medical examination and drug screen
