The Village of Grayslake Illinois, service population of 24,400, a full-service community located in Lake County Illinois, approximately 40 miles Northwest of Chicago seeks experienced police professionals as candidates to lead its CALEA Accredited Police Department.
The Grayslake Police Department provides law enforcement services, by contract, to the Village of Hainesville, Illinois. The Police Department staff consists of a Chief, a Commander, 8 Sergeants, 25 full time sworn officers and 2 part time officers. There are also 5 full or part-time civilian employees. The Grayslake Police Department is recognized as a being professional, well trained, with employees dedicated to the community’s safety.
Grayslake historically maintains a very low crime rate and a friendly hometown atmosphere, with beautiful neighborhoods and excellent schools. The Village offers a diverse housing stock, accessible transportation and a vibrant downtown shopping district.
The Village is seeking candidates with strong communication and leadership skills, with a proven record of visibility and participation in the community. Candidates should be familiar with the principals of Community / Problem Solving Policing as well as Data Driven Policing and data analysis. Candidates must be committed to training, professional development and community engagement.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, communications, or related field. Candidates should also have at least seven years experience in a law enforcement manager or leadership position or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the requisite skills and abilities to effectively perform the duties of Chief of Police. Experience in a community similar in size, population and service level to Grayslake is desirable. A Master’s degree and/or advanced executive management training is also highly desired. Candidates must possess well developed interpersonal communication and public presentation skills.
Appointment is made by the Mayor of Grayslake with approval by the Village Trustees.
Starting Salary Range:
$130,000 + / -, DOQ
Residency is required within 12 months of date of hire.
