The Village of Glenview is pleased to announce that it is conducting an
examination to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer.Police officers’ conduct preventive patrol in an assigned area and provide
initial response to requests for police service. They investigate complaints,
enforce state laws and local ordinances, prepare necessary reports and provide a
wide range of public service activities in order to protect the health, safety,
and welfare of the community. Police officers must be able to:
Display a passion for public service
Analyze situations quickly and accurately
Function well during high stress, emergency situations
Communicate clearly…both written and orally
Work effectively and professionally with the general public and co-workers
Basic Requirements:
US citizenship
High School graduate or GED
Age between 21 and 34 years of age on January 07, 2012 (exceptions for active
military service personnel and previous police experience per 65 ILCS
5/10-2.1-6)
Good physical condition, vision correctable to 20/30
Certification of having passed the physical fitness exam (POWER test) through
the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA);
certification must be issued after June 1, 2011.
Possess a valid driver’s license
Possess a valid Illinois Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) card by time of
hire
Application Process:
Pick up an application packet from the Glenview Police Department located at
2500 E. Lake Avenue, Glenview IL from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm,Monday thru Friday only,November 11 – 29, 2011
Packets will not be available on November 24 or 25. (application
packets will not be mailed)
To receive an application packet, you must show originals of:
proof of citizenship (in English)
proof of age
proof of successful completion of the NIPSTA Power Test
If applicable, a DD Form 214 "Certificate of Release or Discharge from
Active Duty" or official documents indicating previous police experience
with a regularly constituted police department
Written Exam:
Complete the application and other required forms, and bring them to the
written exam.
Applicants must show their current, valid driver’s license or state
identification card at the registration for the exam
The written exam will be administered at the Glenbrook South High School
Cafeteria, located at 4000 West Lake Avenue, Glenview, IL.The test
will begin promptly at 9:00 am and will conclude at 12:00 noon. Registration
for admittance to the exam will start at 07:30 am on January 07, 2011. No
one will be admitted for the test after the doors to the Cafeteria are closed
at 9:00 am.
Selection/Recruitment Process:
Written Exam (applicants obtain a position on a preliminary eligibility list
based upon their written examination score). Top qualifiers continue in the
selection process, which includes:
Pre-Employment Assessment Center (PEAC) and polygraph exam
Background investigation and agency interview
Fire and Police Commission oral interview
Psychological evaluation
Pre-Employment medical evaluation with a drug screening
Eligibility List:
Police applicants obtain a position on a civil service hiring list based upon
their cumulative scores taken from graded portions of the testing process.
