The Village of Glencoe Public Safety Commission is accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Officer with the Village of Glencoe.

 

The position of Public Safety Officer offers a special opportunity to alert, mature persons interested in public service careers.  More than 60 years ago, Glencoe adopted a progressive form of cooperative Public Safety service, which calls for a higher level officer - equally adept at both police and fire work.

 

 

Starting Salary:

 

$65,584.22

(effective March 1, 2016)

 

 

Sworn Public Safety Officers:

 

36

(including one Director, two Deputy Chiefs, seven Lieutenants,

and 26 Public Safety Officers)

 

 

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Glencoe:

  • U.S. citizenship at the time of filing an application;

  • No felony convictions; Note:  A misdemeanor or felony conviction does not constitute automatic bar from employment.  The nature of the offense, the date of the offense, the surrounding circumstance, and the relevance of the offense to the position applied for, may however, be considered in assessing qualifications for employment.  Applicants may be requested to provide additional information regarding criminal convictions to assist the Village in evaluating qualifications for employment in the position sought;

  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license;

  • Minimum of 20 years of age and 6 months by the date of the written examination (February 27, 2016);

  • Under the age of 35 as of the application deadline date (January 31, 2016) unless exempt per one or more exceptions listed in Section 4.1(B)(2) of the Glencoe Public Safety Commission Rules and Regulations, effective February 2015.  The Public Safety Commission Rules and Regulations can be accessed on the Village's website: http://www.villageofglencoe.org/government/committees_and_commissions/

  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent -AND-

  • Successful completion of two years of studies either equaling an Associate's Degree -OR- 60 earned credit hours at a junior college, college, or university that is accredited by a national accreditation agency;

  • Possess a valid POWER Test Card issued by any agency authorized to conduct the POWER Test by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, issued within 6 months of the application date;

    • POWER Test Cards issued by NIPSTA, Triton College or Joliet Junior College will be accepted.

    • Applicants must submit the POWER Test card by the application deadline date (January 31, 2016);

  • Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee.
