The City of Genoa, IL (Pop. 5,200) is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer; entry level candidates and certified officers with three (3) or more years of full time experience are encouraged to apply.



Starting Salary Range:


$48,568 - $53,060 as of May 1st, 2017 with a generous benefit package


The department utilizes a 12-hour shift plan, rotating on a twelve-week cycle that gives officers a three-day weekend every other week.

minimum requirements to apply:

  • At least 21 years of age, not to exceed the age of 35, at time of application

  • U.S. Citizen

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent

  • Possess a valid driver's license with good driving record

Applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 to the Genoa Police Department Administrative Office with a mandatory $20.00 civil service exam fee. 

Please review the instructions carefully, all information must be submitted as instructed for your application to be considered for this process.  Any incomplete packets will be rejected.  The $20.00 civil service exam fee must be included with your submitted packet (the fee will be waived for veterans who provide proof of their DD-214 and for qualified lateral applicants).  

Phase 1:

Submit completed application Packet by 4:00 p.m. May 1, 2017. Only the first fifty applications received will be considered for the hiring process.  Fees with applications received after the first fifty will be returned.

Phase 2:

Orientation and Written Examination

The Police and Fire Commission Board will hold a


Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. to be followed up with the civil service exam.

Phase 3:


Oral Interviews will be conducted by the Police and Fire Commission on Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16th beginning at 1700 hours and Saturday, June 17th beginning at 0900 hours.
