Orientation Meeting must be attended by all applicants. Late arrivals will not be admitted.

Physical Agility P.O.W.E.R. Test – Immediately following orientation

 

Time: 9:00 am

Place: T. Fleming Field House, Knox College, 199 East Knox Street, Galesburg, IL

 

 

Written Exam – Given to those passing the agility test

 

Time: 2:00 pm

Place: Galesburg City Hall Basement, 55 West Tompkins Street, Galesburg, IL

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 21- 34 years of age. Applicants shall be less than 35 years of age at the time of application and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted. Applicants, at such time as they file their application with the board, must be 21 years of age. Proof of a certified birth certificate will be required at the time of application.

  • Education: Minimum: High School or GED equivalency and 29 semester hours in law enforcement related courses or the equivalent.

  • Other: U.S. Citizenship; valid driver’s license; physical condition to perform the essential functions of a position and pass physical agility exam; must pass background check that will include psychological, polygraph and medical examinations; no felony conviction.

  • Residency: Must maintain principal residence within a radius of twenty (20) miles from Galesburg City Hall within one year.

  • Orientation: Orientation will be held at T. Fleming Field House, 199 E. Knox St.; Galesburg, Illinois; Saturday, July 24, 2010, 8:30a.m. Attendance is mandatory and no one admitted after 8:30 a.m.

  • Agility test: Saturday, July 24, 2010 immediately after the Orientation at 9:00 am in T. Fleming Field House, 199 E. Knox St., Galesburg, Illinois. Doctor’s permit required to take agility test. The agility process is a Pass/Fail test.

  • Written exam: Candidates who successfully pass the agility test may take the written exam. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the City Hall Basement, 55 West Tompkins Street, Galesburg, IL

  • Other tests: An oral interview with the top 28 candidates on the preliminary list (combined written exam score percentage and military/education preference points) will be conducted by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners on Thursday, August 26, 2010 and Friday, August 27, 2010 in the Erickson Conference Room at City Hall, 55 West Tompkins Street, Galesburg, IL. Only candidates who obtained a passing grade on the written exam will be considered. Interview times will be announced at a later date.

  • Application submission: Applications MUST be submitted at the time of orientation: Saturday, July 24, 2010. Completed applications are not to be mailed. Applications MUST include the required forms (Certification of Physical Fitness and Waiver/Release of Liability) plus:

  1. Copy of applicant’s certified birth certificate

  2. Copy of driver’s license

  3. Copy of high school diploma or GED certificate

  4. Applicants who have degrees beyond high school must also submit a copy of that diploma and/or applicable college transcripts. It is mandatory that documentation of college degree be provided or the candidate will be given no credit for that degree in the eligibility pool.

  5. It is requested, that applicants who qualify for military credit provide (DD214 certification) on July 24, 2010 in order to obtain an additional five (5) preference points that shall not be cumulative.

 

Salary for Police Patrol:

 

$41,692.00 - $50,797.00 based upon 2010 salary ordinance
