The Village of Fox River Grove, Illinois is a small town of 5,000 residents located 35 miles northwest of Chicago, IL. Notable features include: the Fox River, a redeveloping downtown, a modern retail center along Routes 14 and 22, a wide range of single-family housing, and 130 acres of parkland. It is also home to the Norge Ski Jump.
The Chief of Police works closely with the Village Administrator and reports to the Village President. The Chief is responsible for the operation of the Police Department including implementation of all policies, procedures, rules and regulations. The Department currently has twelve (12) sworn positions including a Lieutenant and Sergeant. There is one (1) part-time records clerk. Dispatch is contracted to another municipality. The Department’s current initiatives include: creating a comprehensive emergency management plan, advising the team negotiating with the newly formed police union, and planning for upcoming officer retirements.
The successful candidate will have at least seven (7) years of progressive experience, three at the rank of Sergeant or higher, and a bachelor degree in a related field of study. A combination of advanced specialized education, such as the FBI National Academy or Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command, or other similar law enforcement executive education, along with extensive administrative experience, may be considered in lieu of a bachelor degree. The Chief is expected to possess excellent leadership, communication, and management skills. Cooperation with and utilization of other local, county and state law enforcement agencies and their resources is a must. The Chief is expected to participate in community and professional organizations.
An excellent fringe package is available in a professional work environment. The salary range is $65,000 to $82,000 depending on qualifications. Any relocation expenses are the responsibility of the applicant.
