The Village of Forest View, 7000 W. 46th St, Forest View, IL. 60402 a small municipality located near I-55 and Harlem Avenue is accepting applications for the position of part-time telecommunicators.


This purpose of this position is to:

  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services

  • Determine the location and nature of the emergency, establish priorities, and dispatch, police, fire, ambulance units as necessary

  • Maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of police, fire and medical units

  • Monitor and process direct emergency alarms, answer and process non-emergency calls for assistance

  • Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems

  • Receive requests for information regarding vehicle registration, driving records, warrants and provide pertinent data

  • Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones and other computer systems.

  • Dispatch Code Red notification messages, as required

  • Assist residents and walk-in customers with on-site questions, vehicle sticker purchase, water bill payment (when village office is closed), accept payment and process P-Tickets, requests for police reports, etc.



  • High school degree or equivalent

  • A minimum of one year of direct 911 dispatching service is preferred

  • Must have the ability to read and speak English, read contents of a computer screen and observe the work site simultaneously

  • Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic and sense of duty and responsibility and must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Type accurately with a speed of at least 40 wpm

  • Attention to detail and able to work with other members of the department

  • Ability to work efficiently under stressful conditions is a must

  • Must be available to work all shifts, but primarily available to work midnight shifts during the week, as well as all shifts on weekends and holidays

  • Must pass a complete background check

The starting salary upon successful completion of training will be $17.96/hr. Unless otherwise provided this position does not include any benefits.
