Information Technology Project Specialist (Public Safety)

City Managers Office – BPAT Division

Work in partnership with BPAT staff as well as staff within the Police and Fire Departments to plan, track and execute multi-tiered pubic safety technology projects and will be responsible for the management and administration of public safety systems, servers, applications and data.

Primarily responsible for the maintenance of the City’s SunGard based public safety systems. Maintain CRIMES, FIRES, Mobile Data Browser (MDB), and NaviLine systems; identify and manage software fixes; implement new applications and functionality; plan and execute major upgrades and conversions; resolve specific functional and technical issues and field help desk calls as they relate to the public safety systems; maintain existing reports for Police and Fire Departments; design and develop new reports identified by end-users; manage the set-up of new users to the system; maintain user ids, passwords and security settings; plan and deliver end-user training and documentation for new and existing SunGard applications and functionality.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business, Computer Science or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible systems administration and project management experience. Previous experience in a public agency is preferred.

• Extensive knowledge of SunGard public safety applications. 

• Proficiency with QRep report writer functionality.

• Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques and tools.

• Proven verbal and written communication skills.

• Working knowledge of theory, techniques and applications of municipal management.

• Ability to analyze comprehensive business processes, perform-in-depth work analyses, and associated project plans for executing changes to existing policies and processes.

• High-level skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications (specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Project as well as process mapping tools such as Visio).
