The City of Elgin is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.

 

Elgin is a rapidly growing community with a population over 106,000 operating under a City Manager form of government.

 

 

At the time of the written exam, all candidates must:

  • be 21 years of age or older

  • be in possession of a valid driver's license,

  • be in good physical condition

  • be in possession of a copy of their college diploma/transcripts showing 60 credit hours have been achieved

  • be in possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician - Basic certification

*  Five additional points will be given on the eligibility list to those candidates that have an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic certification.

 

If you are one of the top 60 candidates passing the written exam you must be certified by NIPSTA with a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card issued between September 1, 2010 and November 15, 2011.

 

Copy of driver’s license, college transcripts or college diploma and a copy of your EMT – B certification must be submitted with application.

 

 

Written Examination:

 

The mandatory Orientation and Written Examination

will be held on October 27, 2011 at:

 

Elgin Community College

Seigle Auditorium

UBC Building

1700 Spartan Drive

Elgin, IL

 

 

Following the application deadline you will be assigned to one of two test times:  8:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.  Prior to October 27, 2011 you will receive an email indicating your assigned exam time.  The test is a video based test and will last approximately 2.5 hours.  Only those individuals who have supplied their documentation and submitted their $20.00 application fee will be allowed to test.

 

 

APPLICATION FEE:

 

There is a $20.00 fee for submitting an application.  The fee must be paid by October 14, 2011 in order to validate the application and qualify for the mandatory exam.*
