The City of Elgin, Illinois seeks a Communications Shift Supervisor to supervise the Emergency Dispatch Center for Police, Fire and EMS.

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supervising, directing, assigning, and evaluating work of all Communications personnel on an assigned shift.  Duties include the monitoring and direction of E911 system activities, management of shift operations consistent with Communications Division standards and procedures, supplementary performance of call-taker or dispatching duties as needed, the preparation of personnel performance evaluations, investigation of complaints against telecommunications personnel, and performance of tasks as assigned by the Communications Director.  The Telecommunications Supervisor position requires shift work including weekends and holidays.

• Three (3) years recent experience working as Communications Operator in a full service Police and Fire Emergency Communications Center.

• A thorough working knowledge of CAD systems and the communications equipment used in an E9-1-1 Call Center.

• Must possess strong written and oral communications skills, along with exceptional training and leadership abilities.

• Position requires a high school diploma or GED, with preference to candidates with a Bachelors degree or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited university or college.

• Candidates should have experience as a telecommunications operator, preferably in a Motorola Printrak environment.

• Must possess LEADS and EMD certification.

• Copies of diploma(s), certificate(s) must be attached at time of application.  The successful applicant must pass a background investigation, criminal history check, and drug test.

$ 55,679, plus a comprehensive benefit program.
