Rotating work schedule from Sunday through Saturday working both day (7a-3p) and evening (3p-11p) shifts.

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Function:

  • Prevent, detect and investigate disturbances; maintain order; patrol assigned areas; enforce traffic regulations.

  • Comply with and adhere to all applicable state, federal and local laws.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Proactively patrol a designated area during an assigned shift to preserve order and enforce traffic regulations.

  • Investigate disturbances to determine appropriate action.

  • Investigate calls of a non-threatening nature (e.g., injured or ill subjects and civil disagreements) to determine appropriate action.

  • Investigate vehicle accidents and determine appropriate action.

  • Patrol traffic and parking areas to enforce regulations.

  • Respond to all emergencies during assigned duty shift.

  • Administer first aid/perform CPR/ apply AED as necessary.

  • Operate communication equipment; transmit all citizen complaint calls to appropriate police officer or other departments as appropriate for action and/or follow-up.

  • Prepare written reports of incidents occurring on assigned shift.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer's Training & Standards Board.

  • Maintain annual firearms certification as required by Illinois Public Act 94-103.

  • Maintain LEADS and AED/CPR certification.

  • Participate in a minimum of 32 hours of in-service training per year.

  • Perform such other duties as may be required by State law, or Department rule, or as may be assigned by a superior officer.

  • Perform other duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.

Very Heavy Work:

 

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Position requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

 

 

Work Environment:

 

Moderate noise.

 

 

Environmental Conditions:

 

Outdoor weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Two years prior police experience.

  • Be 21 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen.

  • Possess a valid Illinois driver's license.

  • Must be able to walk eight hours per day and assist in evacuating non-ambulatory persons in an emergency.

  • Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action.

  • Ability to use good discretion and deal courteously but firmly with general public.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Availability and ability to work varying shift assignments.

  • Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to extreme weather, intense physical activity, combat with armed and or/dangerous persons, individuals with contagious diseases, and safety hazards associated with emergency driving and traffic control.
