Function:
 

Responsible for the protection of life and property through enforcement of applicable state, federal and local laws. Responsible for the prevention, detection and investigation of crimes; maintaining order; patrol of assigned areas; enforcement of traffic regulations; accident, criminal and other investigations. Duties may entail other special assignments of similar complexity. Also involved in the work is an element of personal danger. Work may be performed either in uniform or plain clothes, in an automobile, or on foot, and on an assigned shift or more flexible hours. Assignments are received from superior officers and are carried out under established policies and procedures. However, employees must exercise considerable judgment, initiative and skill in their application to a variety of cases.  
 

 
Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Must be 21 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen.

  • Must have a valid Illinois driver's license.

  • Prior police employment and certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer's Training Board.

  • Acquire and maintain other than full access LEADS and AED/CPR certification.

  • Availability and ability to work varying shift assignments.

  • Ability to use good discretion and deal courteously but firmly with general public.

  • Must have English speaking, reading and writing skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, fellow workers and general public.
