The City of DeKalb, Illinois invites candidates to apply and test for the position of Telecommunicator. Applications will be accepted and testing will be performed to fill a current part-time position and establish an applicant pool for part-time and full-time vacancies.
The Telecommunicator receives emergent and non-emergent telephone inquiries and requests for Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services within our community and fire protection district. The Communications Division is staffed 24/7 by a Communications Coordinator, 11 full-time and six part-time highly trained telecommunicators (TCs). The Telecommunicator receives, analyzes, classifies, prioritizes and responds to Police and Fire calls of an emergency and non-emergency nature, including those calls involving life-threatening situations. In 2017, the Communications Division received over 115,000 phone calls, including over 22,107 9-1-1 calls, while dispatching 52,136 police calls and 5,664 fire/EMS calls.
The starting pay rate for full-time is:
$22.628 per hour plus a full benefit package
Effective 1/1/19, Full-time wages will increase to $23.194 per hour.
The starting pay rate for part-time is:
$23.15 per hour
Part-time will work up to 28 hours per week and participate in the IMRF pension program.
