CITY OF DEKALB

PATROL OFFICER TESTING

 

The City of DeKalb, Illinois is taking applications for the position of Patrol Officer for the purpose of establishing an eligibility list.  DeKalb is located in a university community and serves a population of approximately 45,749.  The department is comprised of 60 full-time sworn employees, and 12 full-time/6 part-time civilian employees. Both men and women are encouraged to apply.

 

 

Current starting annual salary:

 

$57,179

plus an excellent benefit package

 

 

Requirements:

  • Applicants must possess a valid drivers license

  • Be at least 21 years of age prior to taking any test leading to employment as a Patrol Officer for the City of DeKalb, or 20 years old if they have completed an approved Police Program or Law Enforcement studies at an accredited college/university

  • Applicants must not have reached their 35th birth date, or 41st birth date if they are currently a Certified State of Illinois Peace Officer at the time testing commences (orientation and written test date)

  • Provide evidence of one or more of the following: an Associate of Applied Science degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice/ Law Enforcement; a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline; or possess certification as a Probationary Police Officer, Permanent Police Officer, or Law Enforcement Officer as defined in 50 ILCS 705/1, et seq

  • Proof of birth date will be required at time of application

 

All applicants must pass a written aptitude test, initial background investigation and oral interview to qualify for the eligibility list.  A complete background investigation as well as medical examinations including physical, psychological, polygraph and drug test will be required prior to appointment.  Prior to entry into the Police Training Institute, the appointee will be required to pre-certify ability to pass the POWER Test and subsequently must successfully complete the minimum standards of Basic Law Enforcement Training course prescribed under the provisions of Public Act 79-720, and achieve a passing score on the Law Enforcement Officer Certification Examination.  Any applicant who is appointed to the Police Department under this provision must have reached their 21st birthday prior to probationary appointment, however an under age applicant whose name is passed over on the eligibility list under this provision would retain the original position of his name on the list.

 

City Ordinance requires that employees meet Council approved residency requirement within fifteen (15) months of date of hire.
