The City of Crystal Lake, Illinois (est. population 41,797), a community 50 miles northwest of Chicago, seeks individuals with a high degree of personal and professional integrity to participate in a competitive process to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. Eligibility testing occurs as needed.

The Crystal Lake Police Department's mission is to provide professional, high quality and effective police service in partnership with the community. Recognizing the changing and diverse needs of the community, the department provides and encourages a policy of professional and individual excellence which is enhanced by continuing education and training.

To be considered for employment, candidates must

meet the following requirements:

$25.00 non-refundable application fee
U.S. Citizenship
No felony convictions
High School Diploma or Equivalent
60 credit hours of completed coursework from an accredited college or university OR
- 2 years of full-time active continuous military service in the United States Armed Forces with an honorable discharge OR
- Service within past 12 months from application deadline (5/14/2010) as a full-time certified police officer at another jurisdiction for a minimum of one year
Valid Driver's License
Applicant must be 21 years of age at time of application, and less than 35 years of age at time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is established, except as otherwise determined by State Statute
Residency within 20 nautical miles of the Crystal Lake Municipal Complex within 15 months of hire
Meet Visual Acuity Standard of correctable to 20/20 and shall not be colorblind
Certified Illinois Police Officers receive preference on eligibility list and starting salary may be negotiable

Applicants must attend orientation and pass and/or successfully complete written test, physical ability test, interview, background investigation, polygraph test, and a pre-employment, post-offer psychological assessment and physical examination.

$53,040.00

Illinois Certified Police Officers will receive preference on the final eligibility list and their starting salary may be negotiable.

2010/2011 Salary Range $53,040.00 to $81,681.60 (Max after 6 years)

Competitive Benefit Package includes innovative 5-2, 5-3 schedule that allows for approximately 15 extra days off each year.
