ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT, SAFETY AND SECURITY COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO
Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting.
In this key role, the Associate Vice President, Safety and Security (AVP) will lead and direct the Columbia College Chicago Security and Safety Program. The AVP will work closely with administrators, academic leaders, faculty, students and external partners to further develop and manage the campus safety and security programs in compliance with local, state and federal laws. Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing a strategic program to ensure comprehensive safety, security and crisis management which includes 17 academic and residential buildings in the South Loop as well as numerous events; designing and implementing physical security programs and systems; building a campus culture of safety and security; directing the Safety and Security Office managers and staff in the delivery of security programs, safety training, planning, contract guard services, incident response and reporting, and drills and exercises; developing/managing the operating budget of the Security and Safety Program; and coordinating with Student Affairs and Human Resources for behavioral assessments and management response actions to security threats.
To qualify, you must be a graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree, Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and other senior supervisory schools are strongly preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in security, law enforcement or higher education security management is essential. Candidates must also possess the equivalent training and education consistent with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board requirements for a full time Certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois, as defined in the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705).
