Position Description:

The Chief of Police has overall responsibility for managing the operations of the twenty-four hour College of Lake County Police Department. Responsible for all law enforcement activities at three campuses with 18,000 students and the leadership of a 24-person, fully-trained police department. Successful candidates will have, or can quickly develop, a full understanding of the federal Clery Act requirements as they apply to campus law enforcement. 

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field.

• Currently certified as a peace officer according to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, or able to become certified within six (6) months.

• Ten (10) years experience in law enforcement including five (5) years in a leadership capacity.

• Strong interpersonal communication skills.

• Strong written communication skills.
