Primary Range Master


Responsible for the management, safety, supervision and coordination of all firearms training at the Homeland Security Training Center (HTC). Functions performed include direct supervision of the range support staff, HTC admin. asst. and the Adj. Faculty and FTO partners of HSTI, instructional course development, validation and articulation, strategic planning, internal and external mandated reporting, development and maintenance of student-specific relations with customer police departments and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB).
 


Duties:

  • A commitment to the law enforcement and general public community to provide the highest quality, most up-to-date, cost effective, and comprehensive law enforcement firearm instructor training.

  • Develop and enhance both instructor skills and firearm handling skills for recruits, field training officers, adjunct faculty of HSTI and training partners.

  • Recruit, recommend for hire, manage, supervise, direct, and if necessary, recommend for termination all program personnel, including full and part-time staff, adjunct faculty, and teaching assistants.

  • With input from the ILETSB and police executives, develop and improve basic qualification and tactical training formats based on the training needs of the regional law enforcement and public safety community.

  • Assist the Program Managers, Director (SLEA) and Associate Dean (HSTI) in range and simulator budget planning, development, and execution to meet SLEA and HSTI programs instructional needs and goals.

  • In collaboration with the HSTI, assist in the development and supervision of the delivery of private sector training related to executive security, corporate campus security, active shooter response, etc.

  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with the ILETSB and the various Federal, State, local law enforcement agencies to meet both basic qualification range/simulator needs as well as advanced, tactical training needs.

  • Manage scheduling of instructional resources required for the different instruction modules and contribute to the overall HSTI strategic plan related to simulation and live-fire exercises.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date complete electronic inventory of ammunition and weapons secured within the Homeland Security Training Center.

  • Manage Simulations, live ammunition, simulator supply, weapon supply inventory and oversee budget, ordering and safe storage of said materials.

  • Supervise the preparation and submission of all documentation to city, country, state and federal requirements related to the operation of a live-fire range, simulators and ammunition storage.

 

Qualifications:


REQUIRED:


EXPERIENCE:

 

10 years as a law enforcement officer including 5 years as a law enforcement Master Firearms Instruct.

 

EDUCATION:

 

BA or BS degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

 

 

PREFERRED:


EXPERIENCE:

 

10 or more years as a law enforcement officer including 10 years as law enforcement MFI.

 

EDUCATION:

 

MS in Criminal Justice or related field.
