We are currently looking for a:

 

MANAGERIAL JOB, Deputy Chief of Police

 


Handle department decision making in the absence of the Chief of Police. Also handle department support services and protection for college properties, interests, students, faculty, support staff and guests.

 


Primary Responsibilities include:

  1. Directs the operation of the department in the absence of the Chief.

  2. Coordinates the Support Services functions including investigations, dispatch, community service and student employees.

  3. Has budget signature authority and assists with the preparation and administration of the Public Safety Police Department budget.

  4. Assists in the development, implementation, and attainment of department goals and objectives.

  5. Develop and update operational police department policies and procedures.

  6. Represents Public Safety Department as it pertains to security and safety issues associated with college construction projects. This includes review and comment on building documents, traffic issues and attendance at construction team meetings with input on decision making for security and safety.

  7. Is the designated Safety Officer within the department to identify, review and make changes for internal, as well as external safety issues.

  8. Develop fire, tornado, and other emergency response plans and drills.

  9. Manage the hiring process for new Public Safety Officers, Dispatchers and Community Service Officers.

  10. Coordinates Public Safety training programs.

  11. Responsible for compliance with federal Cleary Act compliance.

  12. Directs department inventory control practices.

  13. Responsible for department inspections in compliance with policy.

  14. Works closely and cooperatively with local, county, and state law enforcement agencies and officials to provide service to the college campus.

  15. Prepares periodic statistical analysis of calls for service and other periodic management report.

  16. Evaluates activities of assigned area and recommends improvements and modifications.

  17. Assists in the enforcement of all laws, ordinances, and departmental regulations including updating the operations manual.

  18. Responsible for the administration of payroll within the department.

  19. Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to traffic and parking, posting of notices, distributing tracts and pamphlets, assemblages of persons, and use of building and grounds.

  20. Represents the Public Safety Police Department serving on Continuous Improvement Teams as appropriate.

  21. Enforce application state statutes, city and county ordinances when such as required for the protection of College properties, interest, students, faculty, supportive staff and guests.

  22. Assist other police agencies surrounding the College upon request.

  23. Successfully qualify at department range qualifications schools.

  24. Conducts security/alarm surveys on a periodic basis.

  25. Working knowledge of all responsibilities for the duties of each employee Classified Position Description within the Public Safety Police Department.

  26. Other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Ten (10) years of law enforcement experience with a minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory position. Proven track record in effectively managing in a union environment.

  • BS degree required. Masters degree, graduate of police upper management course and college level teaching credentials preferred.
