Coles County Emergency Communications Center

Position Announcement:

 

Executive Director

 

 

Coles County is seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to lead the Coles County Emergency Communications Center. This position oversees the County Emergency Communications Center for Coles County that serves a population of 57,000.

 

 

Desirable Attributes:

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field including, but not limited to Public Safety, Business, Communications, Public Administration, and/or possess a minimum of 5 years administrative knowledge and experience in a similar sized dispatching agency

  • Knowledge of: operations, services and activities of a dispatch center, computer aided dispatch (CAD) Federal, State and Local codes, laws and regulations, communications equipment including radio systems, 911 systems and CAD systems

  • Be able to demonstrate competencies in staff and office management, budgeting, planning and constituent public relations

  • Residency requirement of Coles County within 1 year of employment

  • ICS and NIMS certification preferred

  • Experience in grant writing

  • Pass a successful background check

 

Responsibilities will include,

but are not limited to the following:

  • Functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, organize, direct and manage the operations and activities of the dispatch center

  • Plan, develop and oversee the work of staff involved in receiving, evaluating and transmitting of emergency and routine voice radio messages

  • Implement the Communication Center’s goals and objectives, establish performance standards and methods

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures

  • Manage employees through subordinate supervisors

  • Review and evaluate employees’ work performance

  • Participate in selection of staff

  • Coordinate staff training

  • Recommend discipline

  • Evaluate the overall operations of the Communications Center

  • Prepare various reports on operations and activities

  • Participate in budget preparation and administration

  • Prepare cost estimates, monitor and control expenditures

  • Oversee, monitor and maintain a variety of dispatch equipment

  • Work with county and city staff along with other outside agencies to ensure systems are working properly

  • Recommend the purchase of supplies and equipment for the communications center

  • Administer and supervise programs for the maintenance and repair of the communication and dispatch systems

  • Maintain liaison between divisions, other city or county departments, vendors and contractors, answer questions and provide information to the public and to the Board of directors

  • Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions

  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations

  • Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with agencies within the County providing similar services

  • Prepare a variety of analytical and statistical reports and correspondence on operations and activities

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other employees and the public using principles of good customer service

  • Perform related duties as assigned
